Frederika “Fraka” Harmsen: Making a Positive Difference
Frederika
“Fraka” Harmsen has worked within the California State
University system since the mid-1980s and currently serves as the Special
Assistant to the President at California State University in Chico. During her
more than three decades with the university, she seems to have done it all but
says she does not intend to fully retire any time soon.
Harmsen
says. “I still want to make a positive difference.”
The list of those positive differences is
already staggering. In addition to having held numerous positions and academic
titles at California State University, she has published a number of scientific research papers and
presented her work at numerous national and international conferences..
Frederika “Fraka” Harmsen has received over three million dollars in federally
funded research grants from multiple organizations including the National
Science Foundation, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
and the National Parks Service.
One of her major fields of interest is
climate change and she speaks about the topic to wide-ranging audiences. From
her life-long career in academia, “Fraka” is certainly using her vast and
incredible knowledge as a geologist to make a positive difference.
